Sleeping on the floor has three goals
1. Manage sleeplessness
If you toss from angle to angle looking for that elusive sleep, then going down on the floor will settle your nervousness and give you the sleep you need.
In addition, the body goes into sleep when the environment is colder that's why you sleep soundly if it is raining or there is cold. The floor is colder than the bed, this triggers the pineal gland to release the sleep hormone and hence better, quality sleep.
2. Re-orientation of the spinal column and the entire musculoskeletal system
Our daily chores involve a lot of posturing, bending and stooping. Office work and being in your car interferes with the natural orientation of the spinal column. This leads to backache, neck pains and headaches. Sleeping on the floor re-positions your spinal column to its natural curvature. Sleeping on the floor reconditions the musculoskeletal system. When you wake up in the morning, the pain will be gone.
Instead of buying expensive orthopaedic mattresses, just buy a reed mat or a basic carpet and sleep on the floor.
3. Grounding/earthing
I wrote in this channel about grounding with its benefits. You can read it here ( Benefits of walking barefoot)
The other purpose of sleeping on the floor is to neutralize the harmful radicals in the body by allowing the earth to exchange its electrons with your free-roaming electrons.
In the modern life, we spent time on our phones, computers and cars which emit electrons that our bodies absorb. These electrons need to be neutralized.
However, this is effective if you sleep on an earthen floor or place a mat under a mango tree or any indigenous tree and have an afternoon sleep.
Our houses are tiled and therefore you may not enjoy the full benefits but still, you can sleep on the tiles or spread a reed mat or a mat made from natural components like sisal strands or coastal reeds.
Why do you think babies don't like sleeping on the bed? It's because of natural instincts.
So, sleep on the floor regularly.
