PREMATURE EJACULATION AND ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION.

Updated: Jun 16, 2023

THE ONE-MINUTE MAN: The ABCD of overcoming premature ejaculation. Premature ejaculation occurs when a man ejaculates sooner than he would have expected leaving him and his sexual partner not satisfied and devastated. Always referred to as the one-minute man, premature ejaculation leaves the man frustrated, and it always leads to a deflated and consequently low self esteem. In premature ejaculation, orgasm may or may not be achieved since orgasm and ejaculation are not the same thing. Before you proceed with this blog post, you can read the science of ejaculation by clicking on this link The science of ejaculation. A man is diagnosed with premature ejaculation if he: Always or nearly always ejaculate within one minute of penetration Is unable to delay ejaculation during intercourse Feels disturbed or distressed, and he avoids sex because of feeling embarrassed Premature ejaculation leaves the man disturbed and frustrated. He ends up with low self esteem and fear of getting intimate again. Premature ejaculation can be classified into: Primary premature ejaculation Secondary premature ejaculation Primary premature ejaculation occurs all the time from the beginning of a man’s first sexual encounter. Secondary premature ejaculation is also known as acquired premature ejaculation and it develops after a previous history of having sexual experience without any ejaculatory problems. Causes of premature ejaculation Psychological problems are among the leading causes of premature ejaculation in men. The causes of premature ejaculation can be categorized as follows: Pelvic causes Nervous causes Circulatory causes Psychological causes Hormonal causes Pelvic causes of premature ejaculation emanate from the failure of the pelvic muscles to withhold or delay the rhythmic expulsion of semen from the urethral meatus due to weak pelvic and abdominal muscles. Other pelvic causes are: Erectile dysfunction Diseases or conditions of the prostate and urethra Nervous causes are as a result of the inability of the brain and the nervous system to delay an ejaculation. One of the causes of nervous failure during ejaculation is Dopamine disruption. Causes of dopamine dysregulations are: Obesity Alcoholism Sugar addiction Masturbation Pornography Psychological causes are responsible for approximately 60% premature ejaculation. A man facing a horde of mental disturbances or disorders can have a difficult time during sexual intercourse because he lacks the psychological will power to delay or manage an ejaculation. Some of the causes of psychological weakness are: Depression Mental anxiety Sexual anxiety Low self esteem Relationship disagreements and problems Alcoholism Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) Erectile dysfunction vs premature ejaculation Erectile dysfunction can lead to premature ejaculation because a man who has trouble initiating or maintaining an erection will consciously rush through the sexual encounter for fear of losing an erection. A causal relationship exists between erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation. Treatment of premature ejaculation There are two approaches in the treatment of premature ejaculation: Behavioral Medications I recommend behavioral approach because it is cheaper and effective. The medication approach is not specific and it may eventually worsen the situation unless the medication is targeting a surgical solution to premature ejaculation. Medicines prescribed for the treatment of premature ejaculation may offer short term relief but in the long run lead to dependency, side effects and complete failure. Therefore, behavioral approach remains the most sustainable and effective strategy for overcoming premature ejaculation. Here is a list of the ABCD of behavioral approach towards overcoming premature ejaculation. Attentiveness Breathing technique Circulation Diet Exercise Attentiveness Attentiveness can be defined as the action of assiduously paying close attention to something. Men who suffer premature ejaculation also suffer some degree of attention deficit disorder. Attentiveness is a superpower. It harnesses a man's thoughts and willpower. Loss of attentiveness begins in childhood and persists into adulthood. It contributes to low self-esteem, which consequently affect sexual behavior. Sexual intimacy require focus and attention. Lack of attentiveness can be fixed by: Having a strict morning routine Reading books Journaling thoughts and doing yoga Restricting and limiting time on phones, computers and TV Silent nature walks and Mountain hiking Breathing Deep breathing is a powerful technique that helps a man to overcome premature ejaculation. Deep breaths are vital in supplying the brain tissue and other body tissues with adequate amount of oxygen and nutrients. Deep breathing fills the tissues with enough nutrients and ensure wastes are promptly excreted. Deep breaths will also ensure complete removal of wastes like carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide from the body tissues. The first step in learning how to achieve deep breaths is to master breathing through the nostrils instead of breathing through the mouth especially when walking, running or exercising. Many men suffer premature ejaculation because they cannot control their breathing. Their breathing is shallow and sloppy. Deep breathing pumps enough gas into the tanks of the abdominal core thereby improving intra-abdominal stamina during sex. Attentiveness and deep breathing are superpower techniques that cure sexual anxiety. Circulation Ejaculatory structures require enough nutrients to achieve desired ejaculatory responses. However, if these structures are denied adequate blood supply, they become dysfunctional. Uninterrupted blood circulation nourishes the brain, the nerves and the ejaculatory structures. The brain also requires uninterrupted flow of blood into its tissues in order to promote the exchange of neurochemicals within the neural circuits in the brain. Risk factors that hinder circulation to ejaculatory structure: Diabetes Hypertension Liver disorders Alcoholism Dehydration Diet Diet plays a very important role in nourishing ejaculatory structures and maintaining a strong sexual stamina. Eating the right foods ensures the availability of adequate micronutrients for hormonal health and muscle efficiency. Eating the right food is not just good for ejaculatory structures, but also important for the health of the nervous system and brain. Inflammatory foods like sugar, seed oils, refined carbs not only cause inflammation on the ejaculatory organs but they also block delivery of vital minerals into the ejaculatory system. Bad diets also have a negative effect on the brain tissues causing the inability of the nerves to communicate appropriately with each other. This leads to attention deficit, memory failure and uncoordinated motor functions. The important nutrients that support desired ejaculation are: Amino acids(proteins) Zinc Selenium Boron Vitamin B.12 Vitamin D Magnesium Sochum Chloride Potassium Iron, etc. Exercises Pelvic and abdominal muscles should be subjected to regular exercises. This will make them patent, stronger and efficient. Exercises also improve the resilience of the lungs, the efficiency of the heart, brain health and overall brain stamina. Weak pelvic muscles cannot respond to signals of delaying ejaculation while weak abdominal muscles cannot withstand holding powerful intra-abdominal pressure that sustain an erection while delaying ejaculation. Example of exercise that improve ejaculatory response are: Kegels Exercise Pelvic bridges Hip thrusts Deadlifting Squats Planks These behavioral strategies require commitment, persistence and patience. There is no shortcut in reversing biological functions that have been messed by years of undesirable lifestyles.
